Day 47 Champion > Sand River

Friday > Left Charlotte and Jim fishing and headed out climbed for the first 40km. We have seen numerous deer all along the route but today was my first bear sighting. It loped along the other side of the road and was quite large but seriously not interested in the traffic on the road. I haven't said anything to Michele as she was a way back and fortunatly hadn't seen it. I am sure I'd be well and truly on my own from now on if she'd seen it. Jim had spotted it the day before when he had driven into town. We have been lucky not to come across one before. We made it to a town called Marquette by lunch and after some long days Michele stayed in town with the kids and I carried on for the afternoon. The ride was beautiful along a shoreline path. I should point out that the Shore is just the same as we would see in Europe - white sandy beaches and glorious blue waters. Hard to believe this is a Lake and not a sea.  We all meet up for a gorgeous seafood supper.

Well the jubilee has now come to an end and I must say it makes me proud to be British. What a momentous occasion doing what Britain does best ... staging the greatest show on earth.
I hope you are flying our flag with pride in Canada. Keep knocking off them miles with your true grit and determination as always. I know it must be hard for you sampling the various whiskeys and fare along the way but do it for Britain. YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU JO.

Hi Jo, really enjoying your photo gallery as well as your blog! So pleased you were unscathed by the bear but you did just HAVE to come across one to make the trip complete (and the stories better for when you get back!). As for the Indian following you before turning off to the casino - surprised you didn't make that detour!
Went to London to see the Queen in the river pageant and then back to join everyone else at Rose's amazing Garden Party which was fantastic...and the sun shone!
Well done for making such good progress.
Love, Julia and Mark xx
