Sunday - Last night our friends Bill and Jill drove down from Thunder Bay to meet us. We took a tour of Duluth and the shore of Lake Superior and went out for one of the best meals I have ever had. The whole experience was emotional.
Monday > We had an extra cyclist today - Bill joined us for the first couple of miles along the water front. He made some excuse about not having a helmet - then the gears were not perfect and then his ass hurt so maybe next year Bill! We had lots of fun but we had to be on our way so said our farewells!
Friday woke up late after a busy night in the hospital. Roy Orberson slept well and we decided she should take a taxi to Floodwood while I continued to ride the bike. I set off and enjoyed the first part of the ride by the side of the Mississippi and the gentle rolling hills all the way to Floodwood.
Thursday - After talking to local Benmidji guy Bill Smith we were advised that we should both take a ride with him through the Indian Reservation. The landscape is very marshy and absolute wilderness and his opinion was that it would be crazy to ride through this area. There are no go spots where gangs of Indians can not be trusted and we sure don't need to get in the cross fire.
Saturday - Up early. 6am start - the forecast was for rain latter so we had to get a move on. Roy Orberson has now changed names - Jack Duckworth as she has now put plasters around her glasses to stop the wind catching her eyes.
Wednesday - stormy night last night. Thought it must have been Michele's digestive system! We were on tornado alert all night.
Tuesday. Got up and off. Strong head winds made progress slower than ever.
Monday woke up early but Myxie really not good. So off to hospital to get her checked over. Drugs given so on we go.
Sunday. Today we crossed then border to USA at Gretna into North Dakota. We are travelling south of Lake Superior as the roads are much safer for cyclists at this point and will cross back into Canada at Sault St Marie.
Friday woke to another beautiful day but still have a head wind. Had a trial run with trailer on my bike and panniers on Michele's. All good but we are going to have a lot of extra weight to tow.
